Join Mike Joyce, legendary drummer of The Smiths, for a special evening in conversation with BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins to celebrate the release of his long-awaited autobiography, The Drums – My Life in The Smiths.

As a founding member of one of the most influential and beloved bands in British music history, Mike was there for every beat of The Smiths’ brief but brilliant story — from their explosive rise to the defining moments that made them a cultural phenomenon.

In his memoir, Mike offers a fresh and deeply human perspective on life inside the band, full of warmth, humour and honesty. In conversation with the ever-engaging Chris Hawkins — who has previously hosted unforgettable nights here with Tim Burgess and Stuart Murdoch — Mike will share stories of creativity, chaos, friendship and fame, reflecting on the music that changed his life (and millions of others).

After the conversation, the night continues in The Engine Room, where Chris Hawkins will take to the decks for an exclusive aftershow DJ set, spinning indie classics and deep cuts late into the night.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear the inside story of The Smiths — live, loud, and straight from the drummer’s seat.
