Geoff Docherty Memorial Concert - Free and The Fillmore North Story - feat: Terry Slesser, Baz Warne, Dave Taggart, John Buckton
A very special night celebrating the life and legacy of Sunderland music legend Geoff Docherty.
This memorial concert will honour the man who played a huge part in putting Sunderland on the national music map—bringing global artists to venues such as The Bay, The Locarno and The Mecca, and leaving an enduring mark on the city’s cultural identity.
Rob Hutchinson (Innovation)—one of the UK’s leading event power suppliers—will present his original 1960s psychedelic light show, recreating the look and spirit of the era that Geoff helped define. Their friendship dates back to their time working together at The Fillmore, sparking a lifelong connection built around music and live events. Innovation, now with over 57 years of history and credits including Glastonbury and Reading Festival, joins the celebration as part of a fitting tribute to Geoff’s extraordinary influence.
The event is further supported by Sunderland Music City, who recognise Geoff’s lasting impact on the region’s cultural story and are working to ensure his legacy continues to be formally celebrated.
Geoff was described by peers as “a total one-off… above all: a music man,” and “Sunderland’s premier rock promoter”—a passionate, persuasive booker who created unforgettable moments for generations of audiences and artists alike.
This memorial concert is both a celebration and a thank you: a chance for the city, the industry, and those who knew him to come together and honour a true original.
